Garmin today announced a new activity monitor, which is the fourth in the Vivofit series. The new Garmin Vivofit 4 is not particularly impressive, but there are a few things worth noting.

To begin with, and before going into details of the device, the first thing that surprises us is the date of presentation. Why today, if we are about to inaugurate a new edition of the Las Vegas CES? Well, it's very easy, on the one hand the announcement comes right after the Christmas campaign, which has already passed in the 90% of the planet. This way, the sales of the current generation of Vivofit 3 are not affected in a time that is quite marked for the sale of this type of articles.

And on the other hand, Garmin takes the announcement out of the information madness that is the Consumer Electronics Show, which begins on January 9. It's certainly a smart move on Garmin's part, because if it had waited until those days the device would have gone completely unnoticed.

What's new with the new Garmin model? The only thing that stands out is that its screen is now in colour, which doesn't mean that it reduces the autonomy of the model it replaces. Like the Vivofit 3, the new Garmin bracelet continues to offer a full year's autonomy. Of course, it is not a rechargeable battery, but it has two SR43 batteries that can be replaced by the user.

And what else can be highlighted from the presentation? For the first time the new model not only increases performance compared to the replaced device, but also reduces its price. While the official price of Vivofit 3 is 99 ?, the new Vivofit 4 will reach the market for 79 ?. It is clear that the competition from Asia is pressing.

At this point your question may be: why opt for the Garmin wristband instead of any of the cheap wristbands that offer similar specifications (especially talking about Xiaomi products). Your competitive advantage is to offer the Garmin Connect platform to record all activity data as well as to be able to compare and compete in activity with friends and family members.

In short, these are the features offered by the new Garmin bracelet:

  • Color display always on
  • One year's autonomy without changing the battery
  • Counts steps taken and estimates distance and calories consumed
  • Dynamic daily step target
  • Sleep tracking
  • Move IQ function for automatic activity detection
  • Submersible and waterproof
  • Allows changing of belts
  • Weight: 25 grams

And with that... thanks for reading!
